On the day of arrival in Lucerne, a reception was held at the Cultural Center (KKL Concert Hall) right after the Lieder performance by Renée Fleming. Some of us hoped that she might be able to attend but word came that other commitments interfered. Still, it was a very nice affair and, in this picture, we have the pleasure of featuring our host, Jeff Spurgeon, who at the time had just arrived from the live broadcasting of Ms. Fleming's recital.

With our dear friends Paula Tierce and John DeWitt. John is a veteran traveling colleague. We met in Berlin, Germany, on a previous WQXR trip to Central Europe and have been friends since. Paula, an artist and avid traveler herself, could not go on that trip because she was in Madagascar. Since then, she and John have gotten married and now their trips are more coordinated.
